After taking six months to schedule this replay, Waterford County Board will be setting a third date for the Under-21 ‘B’ football decider after a terrific drawn rematch at Walsh Park last Sunday.

This was a tremendous contest, well worth the half-year wait! The slippy underfoot conditions weren’t immediately adapted to, and it took 10 minutes before a score was registered via the boot of the Gaels’ Pa Donovan.

But Kilmac soon found a response through a Bobby Power brace, before midfielder Eoin Walsh put them two points ahead after 15 minutes.

Two minutes later, the Gaels had raised a green flag via a Pa Walsh pentalty, which was cancelled out within seconds when Eoin Walsh fired home a penalty of his own in the opposite goal.

By the 23rd minute, points from Joe Joe Power and the excellent Walsh had Kilmacthomas four ahead, and despite Comeragh Gaels’ best efforts, a solitary Paul Walsh point was the only addition to their tally before the break.

Kilmac came close to a second goal just before the half-time whistle, but Evan Joy’s shot cannoned off the crossbar and away to safety. At the break they led 1-5 to 1-2.

Upon the resumption, the Gaels were first to strike through a Darren Dunford point after three minutes. Within seconds of that score, Dunford picked up a yellow card that would later prove of great significance.

Joe Joe Power was next to point as Kilmac retained control, but a rapid fire scoring spree from Paul Walsh, Dermot Tobin and Niall Browne meant the sides were level by the 39th minute.
