Sunday last was a very good day for Waterford and especially Ferrybank at the All-Ireland Junior and U23 Championships in Tullamore. In the U23 section there were four Ferrybank winners: Jessie Barr in the 400m hurdles; Billy Ryan, 400m; Christopher Russell, 100m and Mairead Murphy, 100m Hurdles.
Silver medal winners were Alex Flynn, 3000m Steeplechase, and Ciaran Donnelly, 110m Hurdles.
In the junior section Ferrybank ladies won the 4×400 m relay and were third in the 4x100m. In individual events silver medals went to Thomas Barr, 400m Hurdles and Cara Kennedy, Hammer. Bronze medals went to Nicola Power in the Long Jump, Megan Kiely in the 400m hurdles, her brother Ben Kiely, 400m hurdles, and Sorcha Murphy, High Jump.
West Waterford also did well, with Thomas Houlihan winning the junior Pole Vault, with his brother Laurence second and their sister Lisa also taking silver in the Pole Vault and third in the 100m Hurdles. Zoe Scanlon had two seconds in the Shot Putt and Discus, and Leanne Herlihy was third in the Pole Vault. In the U23 section Eadaoin Ashe was third in the Discus.
