Passage 4-17 Fourmilewater 2-13
Passage came from behind to defeat Fourmilewater in what was arguably the best game played in this year’s County Senior Hurling Championship.
In a magnificent first half, it was Passage that scored first when Eoin Kelly pointed a free in the opening minute. However from here on in it was Fourmilewater all the way in the opening thirty minutes.
Liam Lawlor hit two long range frees from just inside his own half of the field to give Fourmilewater a two-point lead with six minutes played.
Shane Walsh stretched Fourmilewater’s lead before Owen Connors and Eoin Kelly points followed for Passage to cut the lead to just one.
With 11 minutes played, the impressive Liam Lawlor sent a long delivery out of defence to Shane Walsh who in turn cut in along the end line, unleashing a furious to give Eddie Lynch in the Passage goal no chance.
Three points from Jamie Barron and a single effort from Shane Walsh gave Fourmilewater a 1-7 to 0-3 lead with 17 minutes played.
Two minutes later, Aaron Connors found himself at the end of an Owen Connors delivery in a move that saw Eoin Kelly get a deft touch just before Connors slammed the ball into the net.
Barron extended Fourmilewater’s lead as with a free and in added time Eoin Kelly unleashed a ferocious shot at Conor Ryan. While Ryan was equal to it, making a brilliant save but from the rebound Owen Connors shot over.
Mark Wyse and Shane Walsh swapped points in the time that remained to give Fourmilewater a 1-10 to 1-5 deserved lead at the turn around.
