Ballydurn 1-9; Ballysaggart 0-7
Ballydurn returned to the intermediate grade at the first time of asking as they proved too strong for Ballysaggart at Fraher Field in Sunday’s Junior decider on Sunday last.
Twenty four hours earlier the talk around Fraher Field was all about Ballygunner veteran Fergal Hartley’s performance against Lismore in the County Senior Hurling semi final replay.
Well a day later, the talk abounding Fraher Field was all about Peter Queally who in a magnificent hour’s hurling recorded 1-5 of his side’s tally.
In a hard fought, entertaining game it was the Western champions that got the scoring underway after Eugene O’Brien pointed with just 32 seconds.
However the mid-county men soon found their stride as Peter Queally shot over a hat-trick of points (two from placed balls) all inside the opening 11 minutes.
Despite their good start, Ballydurn found themselves very much under the cosh for the remainder of the half as Ballysaggart came more and more into the game.
At the break, they led by double scores as Eugene O’Brien, Ronan Walsh, Ken Cashell two points from Ronan Walsh in added time left Ballysaggart 0-6 to 0-3 at the break.
Some harsh words were obviously uttered in the Ballydurn dressing room at half-time. Just as in the Eastern Final, they emerged as a side transformed and were soon in control in all sectors of the field.
