Resistance is mounting to a proposed plan to erect 45-metre high pylons in County Waterford.
As part of the Grid Link Project, EirGrid are investing in a new high capacity power line which will connect substations in Cork and Kildare via Great Island in Wexford.
The proposed route corridor travels across Waterford, and a group of concerned residents in mid County Waterford have now formed a resistance group to the proposal.
A meeting has been organised for the Kilmacthomas Business Centre this Thursday, September 19th at 8:30 p.m. to establish a course of action.
Concerned local resident Dermot Kirwan said the construction of pylons would damage the scenic County Waterford countryside and may also present health risks.
“The reaction of local people is that these lines will facilitate the transfer of energy from wind farms in the west of Ireland to England through the interconnecter in Kildare, but thousands of people in Waterford will have to pay the price,” he said.
