Roanmore lifted the first of what they will be three pieces of silverware over the next month when overcoming the challenge of Fourmilewater in the Junior County final at Fraher Field on Sunday last.
While hurling enthusiast might argue that the standard in this final was not the best, no-one could dispute the effort demonstrated by the two sides in Dungarvan.
From the off there was no disputing what the final outcome of the game. Roanmore ran into a four point lead inside the opening seven minutes of the game with Laurence O’Neill impressing hugely for the city side.
Laurence O’Neill, David Barrett, Pa Walsh and Diarmuid Murphy added points for their respective sides to stretch Roanmore’ s lead to 0-7 to 0-2 with 19 minutes played.
Roanmore were looking comfortable at this stage and effectively ended the game (with 39 minutes remaining) as a contest when Damien Thomas drilled home this final’s solitary goal.
Pa Walsh added two points for Fourmilewater before the break to leave six points between the sides.
