Mt Sion 1-15 Ballyduff Upper 0-17
Even though both sides were already safely through to the quarter-finals it did not deter them from playing out an entertaining hour’s hurling at Cappoquin last Saturday evening.
Having played without a number of their leading players in the fourth round, Mount Sion were back to full strength against the 2007 county champions, while the club from the Blackwater border fielded without Stephen Molumphy, who it’s believed will be out for up to six months as he serves on United Nations peacekeeping duty in Chad.
Throughout these two teams were evenly matched, with Ken McGrath in his natural position of centre-back for Mount Sion where he’d a great tussle with the Michael Molumphy, who, having recovered from injury, must be a candidate for a senior inter-county recall, and notched four points from play here.
The opening 10 minutes were extremely even, with the sides level on three occasions. After 20 minutes, Ballyduff Upper had stolen a slight march and deservedly led by two points, 0-7 to 0-5.
