Dungarvan United’s incredible season continued in brilliant fashion in Connors Park on Saturday last. On what was a rain-lashed night (plus sleet) the Old Boro club deservedly knocked their Premier League opponents out of the FAI Junior Cup and they can now look forward to a game against either Waterford Crystal or Southend United in the next round, and those two Premier outfits will not be looking forward to playing the men from the west of the county.
Since the outset of the season, Dungarvan United have won all of their games in Division 1A and have also marched unbeaten in the Munster Cup and FAI Cup. There is not a weak link in their team and they can also call on some experienced players from the bench when the need arises.
Villa took the lead but in truth they played second fiddle for the majority of the game and they can have no complaints whatsoever about the final outcome. The winning goal arrived just after the hour mark and it was a classic strike. Trevor Crotty curled the ball around the Villa defensive wall and into the roof of the net from just outside the penalty area. It summed up the confidence that is running through the Dungarvan side right now.

The game was played in driving rain and sleet and it was also bitterly cold but both sets of players went about their business in fine style. It was the first game both teams had played for five weeks and they were keen to get back into the thick of the action.
Dungarvan looked dangerous when they launched a few early attacks but somewhat against the run of play it was the home side who took the lead on 19 minutes. Danny Walsh headed on a long ball played forward by Ian Sullivan into the path of Des Mullett who was placed out on the left.
