Waterford United 0; Sporting Fingal 0
This was a classic ‘six pointer’ between two teams in joint third place but, in the end, they cancelled each other out in a fast and physical game that produced only a handful of opportunities for both sides to snatch victory.
Sporting Fingal travelled to the RSC with five consecutive wins under their belts and, for long periods in the absorbing battle, looked to have the edge on the Blues. But, when the clear-cut chances were added up, it was United who went closest to taking all three points.
Waterford manager Stephen Henderson had to plan without the suspended Kevin Waters and the injured Kenny Browne and drafted Graham Cummins into the centre-back position. Striker Vinnie Sullivan made a welcome return to the United team and it was also a nostalgic return to the RSC for Alan Kirby and John Frost but, unfortunately for the home fans, they were wearing the colours of Sporting Fingal.
