On Saturday last in Nenagh at the All-Ireland Juvenile Individual Indoor Championships there were three winners from Waterford clubs – two from Ferrybank and one from West Waterford AC – and all were highly impressive.
For Ferrybank, Ciara Giles Doran, in winning the u16 200 metres, set a new championship-best performance with a time of 25.22 seconds. Her clubmate Sorcha Murphy had a fine leap of 1.65 metres in winning the u17 High Jump.
WWAC’s Kate Veale set a new record in easily winning the u16 1500m walk in a time of 6 minutes and 17 seconds. Silver medals were won by Thomas Barr in the u19 High jump and Aisling Quinn in the 800 metres u14. Two bronze medals were won by Megan Kiely in the Long and High Jump u17 – all three from Ferrybank.
On Sunday also in Nenagh the All-Ireland Juvenile Indoor Relays were staged and Ferrybank AC had two wins in the girls under 16 and u17, and the boys under 19 were second.
The winning team at under 16 level comprised Ciara Giles Doran, Niamh Giles Doran, Niamh Brett and Siobhan Whelan and the winning u17 squad was made up of Ciara Diles Doran, Megan Kiely, Brid Brosnan and Sorcha Murphy. The u19 boys team who were second consisted of Thomas Barr, Stephen Murphy, Donal Brennan and James Greene.
