Mount Sion 1-5; Ferrybank 1-3
Mount Sion claimed the Eastern Junior title for the second time in three years when they defeated the reigning champions Ferrybank in Walsh Park last Saturday.
In truth, this is not a game that will live long in the memory for its quality but it was a Championship match between two evenly matched teams with the result in doubt right up to the final whistle.
Mount Sion started the game in a determined mood and they opened the scoring after a matter of seconds when Ian Galgey gathered a short free from Ian O’Regan before firing over.
It was the same player who doubled Mount Sion’s lead eleven minutes later when after being set up by Martin O’Neill, Galgey rounded his marker before scoring with his lethal left foot.
Both sides struggled to score in this game and erratic shooting was a feature throughout.
They did manage to create goal chances but Sam Lawless saw his effort come back off the butt of the post while Ferrybank goalkeeper, James Troy made a series of superb saves to deny Ian Galgey in the first half and Daniel Kelly in the second.
