A rampant Villa Under-17 side tore Clonmel Celtic apart in Connors Park on Sunday afternoon. This Villa outfit have been playing together in the Waterford underage leagues for many years and their understanding of each others play is a joy to behold and from the moment Jack Gaule gave them the lead after only two minutes the result was never in question.
No doubt this extremely talented Waterford side will face much tougher opposition in the last 16, but it would be fair to say that it will take a very good team to beat them. Their next opponents will be another local outfit Southend United who caused something of a surprise 24 hours earlier when they defeated a hotly-fancied Wexford Youths team.
It was fitting that Jack Gaule opened the scoring and then closed the scoring because in doing so he completed a hat-trick. Having said that a number of the Villa players could have got into treble figures such was the one-sided nature of the game.
