The talented Villa team, who are managed by John Furlong, wrapped up their domestic double when they got the better of Southend United on a beautiful Thursday evening in Graun Park on Thursday night.
The normal 80 minutes of play produced plenty of action but no goals. However the extra 20 minutes of play saw Furlong’s colts secure the cup. Although his charges were the best team for the majority of the match, the Tangerines could, and perhaps should have won with the last kick. The players on view did at times show the signs of fatigue at times but nevertheless they served up an extremely entertaining decider. Top man on the night was the United goalkeeper Sam O’Neill. He produced a string of incredible saves but unfortunately finished up on the losing side.
