Second half goals from Kenny McEvoy – who was playing his last game for the club before he moves to Spurs – and Conor Coad were good enough to give the Villa victory in this Under-15 A Cup final in Ozier Park on Thursday night.
This Villa team have now not only won the league and cup double, but as a group they have won five league titles on the trot from the U11 grade up and three cups. That amazing fact is not surprising considering the incredible talent they have in their squad.
This Villa outfit is sprinkled with stardust and many of these players will surely go on to make football their profession.
Jack Doherty, for example, is a throwback to the days when left wingers excited supporters with their marauding runs. Jack, who has spent some time at the Ipswich Town academy, and who is expected to return to Suffolk in the near future, is but one of the Connors Park crop with a bright future.
The spirit in the team is an example to every schoolboy side in the Waterford League. Goalkeeper Brandon O’Callaghan was the victim of a poor and late tackle early on in the game but he battled on manfully until his leg injury eventually forced him to leave the field 10 minutes from full time. The game was tight and tense all through, but the Villa goals were a joy to behold and they deserved their latest triumph.
