There was a time when a Waterford All-Star success would have almost stopped the presses in local media circles.
The sight of John Galvin and Jim Greene on All-Star posters in many a local primary school corridor couldn’t have escaped the eye of many who have since joined those illustrious ranks.
Seeing two of our own amidst the likes of Joe McKenna, Liam Fennelly, Jimmy Barry Murphy and Nicky English cannot have gone unnoticed by Dan Shanahan, Tony Browne, Paul Flynn, Ken McGrath or John Mullane.
That their endeavours, along with the county’s other deserving All-Star recipients since 1998, prove that this remains a fantastic era for hurling in this county. When it comes to being competitive at the highest level in terms of longevity, we’ve never had it so good.
All that’s missing is a particular cup that once again resides across the Suir in Kilkenny – yet again!
