Carrick United were crowned Premier League champions for the ninth time in twelve seasons when they defeated the Villa in Tom Drohan Park on Wednesday night last. It was in fact the first time that the kings of Waterford league football had won the title on their home ground on the last day of a season. Heretofore they had either wrapped up the league before the last game, or had won the final fixture away from home.
Not for the first time, the Coolnamuck-based outfit have displayed incredible consistency over the course of their 18-game campaign – winning 14, drawing 3, and losing only once. They conceded a miserly 10 goals, and scored 37.
