Ballygunner 1-18 Lismore 0-11
The curse for Lismore continues, while Ballygunner remain in hot pursuit of a 12th senior county crown after Saturday’s replay victory at Fraher Field.
Seven times in the first thirty six points the sides were all square and in the same period of time just the minimum separated for much of the time.
However in the end it was the greater hunger of the Ballygunner team that won out and deservedly so. De La Salle, be warned!
In the drawn game Lismore had their chances to win the game and, on reflection, they should have. Yet one could just have easily made the same case for the Gunners, who were flying until Fergal Hartley’s 51st minute substitution.
In the drawn game Lismore’s return from their six forwards was pretty pitiful. They over depended on Maurice Shanahan and if they had more players chipping in for the replay, then there was a realistic chance that they would have won with a little to spare.
However, once again they over relied on the younger Shanahan and with Ballygunner seriously restricting the impact he had on the game from play, the Westerners were always facing an uphill battle.
For the second game in a row, older brother Dan was largely unanimous particularly at moments when Lismore needed them most.
