De La Salle advanced to the semi-finals of this year’s Snowcream County Senior Hurling Championship by virtue of a 21-point drubbing of Tallow at Fraher Field last Sunday.
Tallow were, without question, woeful while the city side played to their full potential then they could have won this by an even bigger margin.
Many of those present were surprised by what they saw from the Bridesiders, leaving many to wonder if this was the first time that a team had ever failed to score from play during a SHC match.
The 2008 champions were on top in all sections of the field, and by the midway point mark of the opening half led by five points thanks to John Mullane brace of frees and a hat-trick of points from the hugely impressive Jake Dillon.
Tallow’s solitary score in the opening half came on 19 minutes when Paul O’Brien pointed from a free, but from then until the break, it was De La Salle all the way.
A hat-trick of frees from John Mullane and efforts from Paudie Nevin, David green and John Keane ensured that Michael Ryan’s charges retired to the dressing rooms leading 0-11 to 0-1.
Things didn’t get much better for Tallow in the second half, although they did start the brighter with points from Paul O’Brien and two further frees from Thomas Ryan.
In the 10th minute, Tallow were presented with a perfect opportunity to cut into De La Salle lead on ten minutes when Evan Sheehan won his side a penalty. But Thomas Ryan’s tamely hit effort was easily saved by Kevin Moran on the De La Salle line.
