Ballygunner 2-10; De La Salle 0-11

County and Munster champions De La Salle were dethroned last Sunday in Walsh Park after an ill-tempered clash with arch-rivals Ballygunner.

Although De La Salle played the majority of this game with 14 men, following Paidi Nevin’s sending off in the fifth minute, they still produced sufficient chances to win this game, missing several second half frees.

The crowd had hardly settled in their seats when a clash between JJ Hutchinson and Kevin Moran sparked a large melee involving players and mentors from both sides, which lasted for a full three minutes.

When things finally settled down, De La Salle wing-forward Paidi Nevin was called to one side by referee Michael Wadding and issued with a straight red card.
