The €500,000 floodlighting project at Fraher Field has been successfully completed, meaning night-time fixtures can now be played at the Dungarvan county ground.
The Under-21 footballers of The Nire and Clashmore were the first to play under the lights there on Friday last, with The Nire running out as 1-12 to 1-10 winners.
Thanks in no small part to grants from both the GAA’s Central Council and Munster Council, the floodlighting of the venue ought to create much needed flexibility in the scheduling of fixtures.
Before too long, midweek, Friday and Saturday night matches in Fraher Field could become the norm and may aid to speed up the completion of many County Board-sanctioned competitions.
