Tramore’s Richard Murray has won the American Irish dancing title in Nashville, Tennessee. Aged 12 years, Richard adds this accolade to his second World Title won last Easter in Belfast.

Richard will perform in ‘The Emigrants Tale’ in Dooley’s Hotel on Thursday nights during the summer season in a show lauded by tourists and locals alike.

Richard is son of Jimmy and Julie Murray, Old Waterford Road, Tramore, and attends Tramore CBS. He is a pupil of the Higgins Irish Dancing Academy.

He also featured for the Munster Express in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade with the Higgins Academy.

The American title is keenly contested as Irish dancing has never been more popular following the Micheal Flatley and Riverdance successes. There is also great pride in Irish culture among Irish Americans.

Richard has bought a mandolin in Nashville and this will add to his musical repertoire as he already plays the banjo.
