Waterford Gardaí require, at a minimum, ‘reasonable cause’ when it comes to conducting a search on a person they suspect of possessing a weapon.
Addressing the Waterford Joint Policing Committee (JPC) at City Hall, Superintendent Chris Delaney said that “Gardaí must also abide by the Constitution” and cannot simply stop a person on the street and search them.
