Gardai have appealed for the public’s assistance in identifying a man suspected of attacking a young woman in a car park on The Quay in the early hours of Sunday, 14th September.

The man, a photofit of whom was circulated to the media this week, is one of three men wanted for questioning in connection with the assault, which occurred close to the Clock Tower.

The woman left the Glen area sometime after 1am and walked down Penrose Lane onto the Quay. She crossed over to the river side and walked along by the railings on the riverbank, in the direction of the Plaza and stopped to smoke a cigarette about 100 metres beyond the Clock Tower, at which point she was confronted by the three youths, who assaulted her.

Gardai have appealed for information from anyone who may have been in these areas between 1am and 3.30am and noticed anything suspicious. In particular, they are keen to identify the man pictured above who, they say, may be able to provide valuable information in relation to this assault.

He is described as being 25 to 30 years, 6ft-6ft 1″ in height, with dark coloured hair which was flattened down with gel and acne scarring on the beard area of his face. Of slim build, he was wearing a light blue and navy striped shirt, fawn suede shoes and light coloured jeans on the night in question.

If anyone has information on this incident they can contact Gardai on 051-305300 or the Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
