KeyesSideI’m a proud Portlaw man who has happily worked in Ireland’s oldest city for over a decade. I’ve also got a lengthy association with Carrick-on-Suir and South Kilkenny that stretches back to my childhood, with my paternal ancestry rooted to the slopes of Slievenanon and nearby Grangemockler.
And, largely thanks to my profession, I’ve developed a great love for the Hook Peninsula and the New Ross area, while West Cork, from where the maternal side of my family hail, is a place I love. In my teenage years I wore the vest of Ring/Old Parish and West Waterford Athletics Clubs and ran for Waterford in club athletics and Tipperary at schools’ level. Let’s face it; my ‘beyond duality’ upbringing is perfectly in keeping with that of a Geminian!
My third level education at Dublin Institute of Technology provided me with an opportunity to not only cut my journalistic heels, but to develop an appreciation and strong affection for both the capital’s south and north inner cities.
