Over €35,000 was raised through the auction at Mayor Mary O’Halloran’s Gala Ball in the Tower Hotel last weekend.
Welcoming the 400 guests, the Mayor said: “It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Tower Hotel this evening for the Ball, the proceeds of which will benefit the South East Cancer Foundation and the Waterford Healing Arts Trust.
“On behalf of the organising committee I wish to acknowledge with thanks the support of our sponsors, Heineken, Kathleen Fitzgerald’s George’s Court, Frontline Audiovisual Ltd. Tipperary Water and Shercon Builders. I would also like to thank all our contributors, too many to list, for their generosity in supplying us with goods for auction items, table prizes, the tombola and the goodie bags.
“We would like to pay a huge tribute to the hard-working members of the organizing committee who I feel have gone beyond the bounds of any committee in preparing for the Ball this evening. In particular we would like to mention Mary Tritschler, Mary Baxter, Mary Roche, Kathleen O’Neill, Colette Quinlan, Fionnuala O’Shea, Tina Keane. I would like to thank my secretary Edel Sutton who has made a huge contribution to the work of the organizing committee and all the staff of the Tower Hotel who have been most helpful in all our arrangements.”
“We also enjoyed listening to the music of the Barrack Street Band on our way into the Hotel this evening”, added the Mayor.
Brass and Co played a great set, later joined by Brendan Bowyer who immediately launched into some of his most famous hits. Brendan had been dining quietly in The Munster Bar restaurant when he was ‘spotted’ and asked to sing. Brendan’s contribution earned a further €1,350 for charity with McInerneys and Georges Court being the successful bidders.
Master of ceremonies, Paul Nolan, and Celebrity Auctioneer, Tom Grace of Halley Grace, were in excellent form and there was great support for the event with many entertaining bids and offers.
Some other bids were in the region of €2,000-€3,000 euro for various sporting trips. Tom Grace said it was one of the most enjoyable evenings he had attended in recent years with over €37,000 euro raised in total exclusing other contributions.
