THE performance of the tourism industry in the south east is in line with the improved performance nationally in 2011, according to Fáilte Ireland.

Data recently released by the Irish Tourist Industry Confederation (ITIC) showed that visitor numbers to Ireland increased by seven per cent in 2011 – the first increase in four years.

While specific figures have yet to be compiled for each region, it’s believed the south east region will also report a very positive 2011.

Fáilte Ireland Client Services Officer in the south east Tara Kerry says the organisation is successfully working through a strategic plan to increase visitor numbers in the region, including working closely with businesses in order to maximise tourism revenue.

“Fáilte Ireland is delighted to see the increase nationally. We very much welcome this return to growth,” she said.
