Money collected for a group of children’s school tour was stolen during a break-in at Scoil Lorcáin last week.
School Principal Harry Flynn received a call at 12.15am on Wednesday informing him that the alarm in the school had gone off. On arrival, he found the Gardaí already at the scene. However the burglars had fled.
Back doors had been smashed to gain entry to the school. A significant amount of damage was caused in Mr Flynn’s own office, with tables and other items broken. It took several hours of clearing up by staff to make the school ready for the pupils arriving for their classes later that morning.
Money which children had brought in to pay for their school tour was taken in the burglary. Mr Flynn said he was devastated over the break-in.
This is the second break-in at the school in the past month. The first occurred on Saturday, May 23rd, the day of the school’s Confirmation celebration. Nothing was taken on that occasion.
