MUNFRONTMAR15Motorists and pedestrians across Waterford city, eastern parts of the county and South Kilkenny endured treacherous conditions on Monday night and Tuesday morning as subzero temperatures caused icy stretches in all areas.
Intermittent snow showers and a severe freeze left many local estates impassable on Tuesday morning. There was disappointment for budding snowman-builders, however, as all but one of local schools remained open. Passage East National School decided to close as entry into the village was deemed hazardous.
There were several minor collisions reported across urban and rural areas on Tuesday morning and, in the city, the Folly and Poleberry were ‘impassable to cars’, according to one local resident. Bright, sunny conditions boosted the City Council’s gritting programme during the morning, although local access roads and many residential estates remained slippy throughout the day.
