Waterford Gardaí discovered a mini cannabis factory with 30 plants in cultivation when they swooped on a family home in the suburbs of the city, the District Court heard in Waterford last week.
Polish born Tomas Krzyznyshi (32) with an address at Ardleigh, Bracken Grove, Waterford, was charged with the unlawful cultivation of cannabis plants and possession of cannabis for sale or supply as well as ‘simple’ possession of the drug.
Inspector Anthony Dineen said the Gardaí executed a search warrant at the house on February 2nd last.
In the attic they found a cannabis growing unit with electric heater and fans. The plants had a potential value of €800 each and the entire crop had a street valued of €24,000.
Solicitor Ken Cunningham, defending, challenged the value of the cannabis plants and said he would call the evidence of a UK expert witness on valuation.
Judge Kevin Staunton adjourned the case to December 22nd next for mention and granted an application for a statements order and the preparation of a forensic analysis report on the cannabis.
