Well, NASA has obliged by putting its ‘greatest hits’ of space exploration sounds online for free. The collections include, famous mission communications, rocket sounds and much more.
More than 60 items in MP3 format have been uploaded to NASA’s SoundCloud account and you can avail of astronaut recordings such as ‘Houston, we’ve had a problem’ to ‘The Eagle has landed’. Neil Armstrong’s “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” is also on offer. The files are also available in the M4R (iPhone) format.
Every time their phones ring, real space geeks can, if they prefer, hear the roar of a space shuttle launch or even the sound of lightning bolts on Jupiter.
Even though I haven’t heard them myself, I’m told musicians and disc jockeys are downloading sound clips of the solar system itself into their music samples. Cool or what?
