The illustrious history of The Munster Express was fondly recalled by all those who took to the stage at the Theatre Royal last Thursday to celebrate the legacy of the much loved paper.

Marking the momentous 150th year milestone, much reminiscing took place at the special gala evening, and the esteem with which the paper continues to be held was very much evident to all in attendance.

Managing Director and Editor Kieran Walsh spoke with Waterford broadcasting legend Eddie Wymberry about the history of the famous paper, and its significance in the lives of all its readers.

Kieran Walsh, third generation of the Walsh owners, spoke of the impressive circulation area which the paper had built up, incorporating South Kilkenny, South Tipperary, South West Wexford as well as Waterford city and county.

He spoke of the proud bipartisan stance which his father ensured was evident in the newspaper.

“The paper always gave a level playing field to all parties,” he said.
