In the past week, there has been some criticism directed towards Waterford City Council with respect to the public procurement process. The delay which so often occurs during such processes was one of the reasons why the City Council acted with such prompt and appropriate haste when it came to the development of the Waterford Crystal centre on The Mall.
When Waterford Crystal went into receivership, the city suffered its largest single body blow of the past half-century. But it must be acknowledged that the action instigated by Waterford City Manager Michael Walsh and KPS Capital Ltd, who acquired the company’s brand name, product stock and patent, ensured that ‘The Glass’ arose in a new guise in the former ESB offices.
