A recent visitor to Waterford was Charles the Earl of Shrewsbury and Waterford, a man who sits in the British House of Lords on the basis of a title that dates back to 1442.  Nobody in Waterford had ever heard of him and he had never been to Waterford until he was brought here by the BBC’s Radio 4 as part of its series ‘Lords a Living’.

Accompanied by reporter Ruth McDonald, the Earl was warmly received at City Hall by Mayor Mary Roche and we followed and listened to him as he walked about the city.  He spoke to former Waterford Crystal workers and attended a juvenile hurling game where he was presented with a hurley that now adorns his office wall in Westminister.
