Liam Butler: “I’d always wanted to get something recorded, and I’m really proud of this album.”

‘If I Told You . . . Stories’ is a new 12-track album which represents a lifetime’s ambition for Carrick’s Liam Butler, one of the best known faces and voices in Irish musical theatre.
The album, which will be officially launched at the Strand Theatre this Friday evening at 9pm, includes Liam’s interpretation of show hits, traditional tunes and a few personal favourites.
“I’d always wanted to get something recorded,” Liam told The Munster Express. “And I wanted to do it as well as I could and make it something I’d be proud of, and I’m really proud of what we came up with.”
Working with David Hayes (“the best musical director in the country”) in his Dublin studio, it’s taken two intensive years, many hours in the studio and even longer in the car to bring it all together. But Liam believes it’s been time – and money well spent.
“I’ve always known when it came to something like this, I was only ever going to be in a position to do it once,” he continued.
“And it cost a lot of money to put this whole thing together – that’s just the nature of studio work. But I wanted to get it right, I wanted this to be something that stood up on its own merits and be something that people would enjoy. And based on the feedback I’ve received so far, it looks like all that hard work has paid off.”
David Hayes, the Musical Director for ‘Fame The Musical’, proved a great sounding board for Liam when it came to selecting the album’s dozen numbers.
