Waterford League 2 Cork League 1
Waterford booked their place in the semi-final of the FAI Inter League Cup when they came from behind to defeat the favorites Cork at a wet and cold Ozier Park on Sunday last. The Leesiders dominated the opening 45 minutes, but the second half saw this gutsy Waterford team come from behind; their post-interval display as good as we have seen from any team at headquarters in recent years.
This crop of players don’t know the meaning of defeat, as they showed in Kilkenny before Christmas and manager Anthony Brown and assistant Jim Whelan have a very special squad of players at their disposal. One of the most crucial moves in this tense match was the introduction of substitute Daniel Pender after 58 minutes. He turned the game on its head. Pender caused major problems to the Cork defence and it was fitting that he was the player who created what proved to be the winning goal 14 minutes from time.
