Darren Murphy only played three games for Waterford United last season. He was showing great promise but then broke his foot playing against UCD in Belfield and that was that for him and he spent the remainder of the season recovering but thankfully he is now looking really sharp in training and in the pre-season games and needless to say he is really keen to get going once again.
Speaking ahead of the new season, Murphy said, “I’m just delighted to be back this season to be honest with you and I like the rest of the lads just can’t wait for the season to get started. When you see some of the players that Roddy has brought it, it does look like the season will be different to last year.
“I’m well over the injury now anyways. I had to work very hard over Christmas to get things right but thankfully all has gone well and I’m just delighted to be back. It was just very unfortunate that I managed to break my foot after just arriving at the club
“I think that it was just disappointing how things went as I was really looking forward to the challenge down here but I’m here to put it all right this season. We have the players and I think that we have one of the best managers in the league.
“It’s going to be a very challenging season for every team in the league when you look at the quality of the teams that have come down. The likes of Limerick and Drogheda will be hoping to go straight back up but I’m confident that we’ll be there challenging also.
“The fans were great to us all last year and it’s important that we give them something to shout about this season. Many of them will see the first number of games as tough and they will be but the big thing in this division is that every game this season will be tough. We’ll be ready for the season ahead.”
