Speaking after the game Collins said, “I thought their keeper was brilliant. He was brilliant when it mattered. I thought we started a little bit sluggish, a little bit deep and we obviously missed the dynamic of the Galvin twins but when we got the chances that mattered, I thought the keeper was brilliant.
“When the first goal went in it was a bit you know – I won’t say concerning but I don’t want to leave the lads down either. Let’s just say that the preparation was awkward and maybe a few people felt that they had excuses but that doesn’t work. You just have to roll up your sleeves and keep going.
“I know people are given Birdsy (Robert Birdsall) a lot of stick but I thought the second goal was a fantastic strike but once it goes two nil then you just don’t want to lose the second half.
“We had loads of chances but as I said their keeper was brilliant. When the third goal goes in the game is over but how can I say this without leaving people down – it was just a very unusual day. Everyone in this club or that has been supporting this club since I took over knows where we’re at.
“We’re going to have McAlavey and Cory Galvin suspended for UCD next week but we’ll have Evan and Ethan back so that’s a help. We’ll be down to the bare bones again next week. “It’s not sentiment but I just feel so sorry for the supporters, the club, the directors and the players. I do and if I could wave a magic wand and make everyone happy I would but this is going to be a long hard job however I’m here for the long haul”.
“Every day when something is thrown at us like today makes me stronger and more determined. We will get it right. We need to get that little break that we haven’t got in recent games and just get that win that could bring us on a run to the end of the season before bringing in some new players for next year.”
