Ian Gardner, Director of Services for Kilkenny County Council, confirmed the date for the judicial review into planning permission awarded for the Ferrybank Shopping Centre development is set for 11 June, 2026.
A judicial review was sought by Waterford City and County Council after the parent company of Dunnes Stores was granted permission to enter the shopping centre and redevelop the first floor into a leisure area.
“Leave to take out a judicial review was granted on 6 November. The case came for mention on 1 December and a date has been allocated, so the hearing date is 11 June, 2026,” Mr. Gardner said.
This news was met with visible disappointment from the South Kilkenny Councillors.
“That’s very poor,” said Fine Gael Councillor, Pat Dunphy.
“It’s not great the way things are going in this country that we have to wait six months to move ahead with the shopping centre. Very disappointing, but that’s the way it is,” he added.
