A man who was charged with speeding while driving on the motorway was recently handed a court fine.
Dermot Andrew O’Connor (56) of 33 Haddington Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4, pleaded guilty to speeding on the M9 motorway road, contrary to Section 47 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, on 7 June, 2024.
At a January sitting of Waterford District Court, it was heard that on that day, Gardaí were conducting a checkpoint at a section of the M9 in Kilkenny, when a driver, who was identified as the accused, was discovered driving at a speed of 143 km/h, above the limit of 120 km/h.
Acting for the defendant, solicitor Ken Cunningham said that the accused had previously pleaded guilty to the offence at a court appearance on 25 September 2025. He outlined that his client has no previous convictions, is living and working in Dublin and is currently managing living with multiple sclerosis.
Judge Staunton handed down a €500 fine.
