At a recent sitting of Waterford District Court, a judge accepted jurisdiction in the case of a man who allegedly threatened one of his neighbours.
Ryan Hawe (24) of 16 Ashgrove, Slieverue, Co. Kilkenny, appeared before Judge Kevin Staunton in court at the beginning of March, where he was charged with threatening to kill or cause serious harm, contrary to Section 5 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997, and threatening to damage property, contrary to Section 3 of the Criminal Damage Act, 1991. This related to an alleged incident that occurred in August 2025.
The court was told that on 13 August 2025, a woman reported to Gardaí that her neighbour had allegedly appeared outside her property, and started “ranting and raving” at her. It was stated the woman said that the man, who was identified as the accused, allegedly made threats to kill her and “burn her out” of her house.
The court also heard that CCTV footage of the alleged incident was reviewed, and although the accused is unable to be seen in it, a transcript of what was said was available. This was read aloud to the court, and in one instance, the accused allegedly said to the injured party: “next time you ring the Council, I’ll punch the brains out of you” and “I’ll kill you and burn you out.”
It was noted in court that the alleged injured party is an elderly woman who was newly living in the area at the time.
Judge Staunton decided to accept jurisdiction in the case, which means it will remain at the District Court. The Judge remanded the accused on continuing bail until 12 May next, when the case will be mentioned again for a plea to be indicated, and ordered the accused not to have any contact with the alleged injured party or her partner.
