Waterford District Court recently heard a case of three women who were allegedly involved in an ‘interfamilial’ assault against another woman in Tramore last year.

Christine Doyle (39) of 7 Glen Doire Tramore, Waterford, Sarah Doyle (35) of 6 Market Square, Portlaw, Waterford, and Claire Corcoran (45) of 4 Gort na Mara, Riverstown, Tramore, are all accused of alleged assault causing harm, contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997. This related to an alleged incident that occurred in April 2025.

The court was told that on 7 April 2025, Gardaí were called to the Backstrand car park in Tramore, following reports of an incident. It was outlined that the alleged injured party in the case had been arguing with someone in a car, and when she stepped out, the three accused women arrived on the scene and allegedly assaulted her.

The court heard that they allegedly pulled the injured party to the ground by her hair, punched her, and forcibly removed her nipple piercing. It was further alleged that it took two Gardaí and another man to separate those involved.

Acting for one of the accused women, solicitor Ken Cunningham told Judge Kevin Staunton that the alleged incident was ‘interfamilial’, and asked if he could have a chance to go over the evidence in the case before addressing the question of jurisdiction.

Judge Staunton was shown photos of the alleged victim’s injuries, which included ‘extensive’ bruising on her body. It was noted in court that there was “varying degrees of involvement” from the three accused women in the alleged incident.

Judge Staunton said that he would not consider jurisdiction in the case yet, but added that he was “on the fence” about whether it will stay in the District Court or not. The Judge put the matter back to 14 May 2026 for jurisdiction in the case to be determined.
