A Wexford man who committed a string of road traffic offences, including driving 41km over the speed limit on the N25, recently failed to appear in court.

Hugh Connors (31) of Hilltop, Clonroche, Wexford, made no appearance at a sitting of Waterford District Court before Judge Kevin Staunton last month.

He was charged with a number of offences including speeding, driving without a licence or insurance, non-display of a tax disc, and failure to produce a licence or insurance certificate to Gardaí.

Garda Conor Courtney told the court that on 22 August 2025, he was operating a checkpoint on the N25 near Kilmurry, Waterford city bypass, when he stopped the accused.

Garda Courtney said he detected the accused driving at 141 km/h in a 100 km zone, and the accused did not produce his licence, insurance or tax disc after being stopped. A fixed charge penalty notice that was issued to the accused subsequently went unpaid.

After noting the accused was not present in court, Judge Staunton convicted him of the offences and issued a bench warrant for sentencing.
