Independent Councillor Joe O’Riordan has called on Waterford Council to adopt a new social media platform, suggesting Bluesky be considered as an alternative to X/Twitter.
Speaking at a recent Plenary meeting, Cllr O’Riordan, claimed that X not a suitable location for the Council’s social media posts, as he claimed it is orientated towards extreme right wing political views.
“Our continuing use of the X platform as a means of disseminating information,” began Cllr. O’Riordan, “the amount of toxic, violent, bigoted and downright racist content I witnessed on this platform is actually abhorrent.”
“Reports suggest that the algorithm is geared towards people with extreme, divisive, right wing views. I just believe that there are far more suitable platforms out there like Bluesky, which really are community minded,” suggested the Councillor.
“I don’t like to wade through the nonsense to see what stuff is there from the Council,” he added.
