A Waterford man employed by Lock Doctor appeared in court last month, accused of stealing almost €2,000 from the business over a six month period.
Eddie Murphy (61) of 90 Doyle Street, Waterford, appeared before Judge John Cheatle at a March sitting of Waterford District Court, where he was charged with 14 counts of alleged theft, contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001. This related to an alleged theft of €1,623 from the Lock Doctor premises in Lisduggan, Waterford between February and July 2024, as well as an alleged theft of €205 from Lock Doctor Ardkeen in July 2024.
Lock Doctor provide 24/7 locksmith services, and have premises in both Ardkeen and Lisduggan in Waterford city.
For the purposes of jurisdiction, Sergeant John Phelan told the court that Gardaí received a report from Lock Doctor that an employee had allegedly taken money from the business. The Sergeant outlined that a total of €1,828 was allegedly taken across the six month period of February to July 2024. He added that it had been a “complex investigation” for Gardaí.
Judge Cheatle decided to accept jurisdiction in the case, meaning that it will stay in the District Court.
The Judge remanded the accused on continuing bail to 2 June 2026, when it will be mentioned again for a plea to be indicated.
