The 80-year-old woman who was found dead in a house in Ardsallagh, Co. Waterford, near Youghal, on Monday last, has been named as Noreen Daly.

Ms. Daly, a widow, lived alone at the house in Ardsallagh and originally lived in Dublin. It is understood her late husband was a Dungarvan native who passed away a number of years ago.

McGUINNESS EXPRESSES SYMPATHY

Sinn Féin TD for Waterford Conor D. McGuinness has expressed his sympathy following the death of the woman in the Ardsallagh area of West Waterford.

“This is a deeply sad and shocking incident and my thoughts are with the woman who has died, and with her family, friends and neighbours as they come to terms with this terrible loss,” Deputy McGuinness said.

“There has been a real sense of shock and concern in the local community over the past day.

“The focus today must remain on supporting the family and respecting their privacy at an incredibly difficult time,” he said.

“Gardaí are continuing their investigation and I would encourage anyone who may have information that could assist them to contact Dungarvan Garda Station,” Deputy McGuinness added.

Gardaí in Waterford are continuing to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a woman’s body in County Waterford on Monday, 15th June 2026.

MALE ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH INVESTIGATION

A male (aged in his 30's) was arrested today, Tuesday 16th June 2026, in connection with the investigation.

He is currently detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a Garda Station in the South Eastern Region.

Gardaí stated that after 2.00 pm on Monday last, they were alerted to the discovery of the body of a woman, believed to be in her 80s, at a residential property in the rural area of County Waterford at Ardsallagh near Youghal Bridge. The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene, which is currently preserved for forensic examination.

SENIOR INVESTIGATING OFFICER LEADING THE INVESTIGATION

A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Dungarvan Garda Station. A Garda Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has also been appointed to support the family.

The Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified and the services of the Garda Technical Bureau have also been requested to assist with the investigation.

A post-mortem examination will be arranged and the results will assist investigating Gardaí in determining the course of their inquiries.

APPEAL FOR WITNESSES

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, in particular those who were in the Ardsallagh or Youghal Bridge areas in recent days. Road users with camera footage, including dashcam recordings from the area, are also urged to come forward.
