A male and female arrested in connection with a murder investigation into a fatal house fire in Birchwood, Waterford, have been charged and are due to appear in court later today (Saturday, 17 October).
Last Thursday, 15 October, Gardaí arrested a male (aged in his 20s) and a female (aged in her 30s) for alleged offences contrary to Section 72 Criminal Justice Act 2006 in connection with the arson attack and murder of four persons at 7 Birch avenue, Birchwood, Waterford. Both individuals were detained under section 50 Criminal Justice Act 2007 in a Garda Station in the Garda Eastern region.
A spokesperson for the Garda Press Office confirmed that both persons arrested in connection with the investigation have been charged.
They will appear at a special sitting of Clonmel District Court this afternoon, Saturday 17th October 2026, at approximately 4.30 pm.
Gardaí said their investigation remains ongoing.
