The number of people in work in the south east has reached its highest level in six years according to figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
With the number of people in work now at 206,600, Minister of State Paudie Coffey said that there’s still room for further employment growth over the coming months.
“Since 2011 more than 20,000 additional jobs have been added in the region – this makes the south east the fastest growing region for employment in the country over the last four years,” he said.
“Over the last number of years, Waterford has re-invented itself and we have seen companies like Eishtec, Eirgen Pharma, West Pharma, NearForm, Agora, Nypro Pharma, Sun Life Financial, Tech Mahindra, Glanbia, FeedHenry, Bausch & Lomb, Genzyme, Dawn Meats, Smartply, Schivo, Evros and Flahavans all invest and create jobs in Waterford city and county.”
Minister Coffey believes the improving economy shall give Finance Minister Michael Noonan “more scope to cut tax on work even further in the upcoming budget”.
