Eoghan Dalton Reports
Calls have been made demanding that Waterford boycotts the commemoration ceremony for the Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC).The Government announced recently that it will commemorate those who served in the RIC prior to independence.
However, the event, which will be held at Dublin Castle on January 17, has drawn criticism due to the RIC’s role in upholding British rule and its links to the Black and Tans.
Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin members have called on the Mayor of Waterford John Pratt (Lab) to join the growing boycott, which so far includes the Lord Mayor of Cork and the Mayor of Galway.
