Waterford Gardaí, via Operation Thor and Operation Storm, arrested nine people on Tuesday last across the division, on a day when 57 summons were also served.
Of those nine arrests, five were for theft, two were for robbery while the remaining two dealt with sexual and court-related offences respectively.
A search of a suspected a brothel was conducted while two people were interviewed voluntarily in relation to prostitution offences, while another individual was voluntarily interviewed in relation to theft offence.
On what proved a busy day for Waterford Gardaí:
* Five persons were found in possession of controlled drugs
* Four premises were searched pursuant to drug warrants
* Twenty-five Proactive Policing Patrols (Mobile and Beat) were conducted
* Seven people were arrested on foot of Bench Warrants
* Ten Bench warrants were executed
* Six charges were preferred
* Three Crime Prevention Stands were conduct
* Two cars were seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act (RTA), while
* One vehicle was recovered.
During the operation, 13 crime prevention and intelligence gathering checkpoints were conducted in various parts of Waterford city.
Meanwhile, several road traffic detections were made and two seizures of vehicles made under Section 41 of the RTA.
According to a Garda spokesperson: “Throughout the operation Crime prevention stands were set up at Waterford Institute of Technology, University Hospital Waterford and Bus Éireann (on) The Quay, Waterford. Crime prevention leaflets were also distributed at these locations. Crime Prevention advice was also given via local radio by the Crime Prevention Officer.”
