With his former club Cobh Ramblers on the brink of tumbling out of the League of Ireland and into the ‘A’ Championship, Stephen Henderson has been a very busy man since he was appointed manager of Waterford United on December 23 last.
He has got stuck into building his new squad with a great deal of enthusiasm and he has just about completed his task at this stage. With matters in a dreadful state at St Colemans Park, the genial new Blues boss must be a happy man that he is no longer sitting in the manager’s chair at the Co Cork venue.
It will be extremely sad if the Ramblers have to drop out of top-flight football because by in large they have been a credit to the game in this country and their home ground is excellent in every way. Hopefully, even at this late stage they will somehow manage to get out of the trouble they find themselves in.
Whatever the rights and wrongs of the situation in Cobh, Henderson must be looking forward to starting off with a clean slate with the Blues. He was fire-fighting for the majority of last season with Cobh but despite that fact he almost managed to keep the club in the Premier League in the face of massive financial problems.
He produced something of a minor miracle to get his team into the top flight the previous year and if he can do something similar with Waterford this season then he will become a cult figure in a very short space of time.
